Updated December 14, 2011: Governor Cuomo has signed Bill A5502b into law! This law gives insured individuals the right to fill ALL their prescriptions at their choice of participating pharmacy, rather than being forced by their insurance plan to use a mail order service. Most New Yorkers will no longer be required to mail away for prescriptions, AND at no extra cost.

Most plans are impacted by the law, with few exceptions.

If your insurance plan is still requiring you to mail away or will not allow you to transfer a prescription to your choice of participating pharmacy, or you need more information about how the law affects YOU and your insurance plan, contact the New York State Department of Financial Services Consumer Service Bureau at 212-709-3500.
